Absolute Threshold — Chapter 159. Give Up

Weekly Chapter 2/3
The narrow dirt path winding through dense foliage was barely wide enough for a car to pass. There was little space for any human presence.
It was clear they were deep in the mountains, where the crisp air and rustling leaves created a peaceful yet slightly unsettling ambiance.
As they continued along the path, they noticed a car parked on the left side. The vehicle seemed to be near the mountain’s base, where the terrain permitted access by car.
Gwangmyeong, cautiously evaluating the situation, showed no interest in using the car as an escape route. His demeanor hinted at deeper concerns, as if he suspected the car wasn’t simply abandoned.
“The presence of a car here suggests there are people nearby, doesn’t it?”
“Yes. That likely means we’re being watched.”
The once tranquil surroundings now felt thick with tension. Every shadow among the trees seemed to conceal a potential threat.
The car served as a stark reminder that they weren’t alone in this isolated area.
From the start, both had sensed this was a trap. Yet, no matter how much they pondered, they saw no other way out.
Gwangmyeong swiftly moved to shield her, positioning himself protectively in front of her as if his body could serve as a barrier. Just then, two or three men emerged from behind the house, their expressions cold and menacing.
“What are you doing? We need to run now.”
But Gwangmyeong stood firm, as if he knew fleeing wasn’t the answer.
The men began descending the mountain with a chilling determination, moving like hunters confident their prey had no escape. Their deliberate steps and cruel expressions left no doubt about their hostile intentions.
“It doesn’t matter if they try to run; we’ll catch them eventually.”
Their mocking words hung in the air like a tangible threat, revealing not only their intent to harm but also their enjoyment of instilling fear.
“Yoongyo is a despicable bastard. You have no idea how much we’ve suffered because of him. I’ve been with many women, but I never thought I’d get involved with one Yoongyo had touched.”
“Don’t worry, Jumi. I’ll shut that bastard’s mouth.”
Gwangmyeong looked at the man with pity, like an adult observing a reckless child. Though injured, he stood as a shield to protect her.
Jumi admired his resolve but worried about the recklessness of his actions.
Even with his combat skills, facing multiple men armed with bats, especially in his condition, seemed like a losing battle.
The tension in the air was palpable.
How long could Gwangmyeong hold out?
Could they survive?
“I want to experience what Yoongyo finds so appealing about her. I want to know why he’s so obsessed. My manhood surpasses Yoongyo’s, so I’ll get her pregnant too. I wonder how she’ll explain to the child who its father is.”
Driven by rage, Gwangmyeong lunged forward and delivered a powerful punch to the taunting man, sending him sprawling to the ground.
However, his momentary triumph was short-lived.
The other men quickly overwhelmed him, responding with brutal force. Despite his efforts, his injured body couldn’t endure for long. A bat strike to his already injured ribs finally brought him down.
Jumi wondered again if they could make it out alive. The odds seemed grim.
As he lay on the ground, Gwangmyeong glanced at Jumi, who watched him in fear. He realized he couldn’t give up, not as long as she needed him.
