Weekly Chapter 1/3
It appeared that the baby in her belly had grown larger.
After the children went to kindergarten, Jumi went shopping with her mom for the first time in a long time. They chatted while they explored the shops.
“Yoongyo has too many ties. No need to buy anything.”
Kyung, who had always been distant with her son-in-law, appeared to start secretly worrying about him. However, he continued to treat her simply as Jumi’s mother, without any warmth.
The relationship was somewhat distant, but thankfully Yoongyo never spoke rudely in front of her mother-in-law. Jumi made efforts to prevent them from meeting, as she feared such an incident might occur.
“Just to be clear, I’m searching for a tie one for your father.”
“Those ties are too youthful for him.”
“As I age, my perspective has shifted.”
Kyung, after releasing the tie, exited the store.
She looked at Jumi’s swollen belly.
“I still wish you had married the hospital director’s son. If you had, Jiho would be the next Director.”
“He wouldn’t have been born.”
Her heart raced at the thought of Yoongyo overhearing Kyung’s remarks. It was clear that Yoongyo would respond rudely. Even though he wasn’t present, she felt a shiver run down her spine.
Yoongyo was likely to ascend to the position of Director at Woosung, where he would remain untouchable within the organization. The formidable power established by the man who dominated the political landscape made it nearly impossible for anyone to challenge him. Moreover, the hospital Kyung mentioned would struggle to function without the support of an organization like Woosung.
But Kyung was so greedy that she also wanted fame. Jiho wouldn’t need to conceal his role as the Director of a hospital, as it was a position that garnered societal admiration.
“I feel sorrowful. When I gaze at you, it feels as though I’m looking at a reflection of myself.”
“I’m not like you. Divorce isn’t an option for me either.”
Once they completed their shopping, they headed to the coffee shop. She eased her heartburn with a glass of fruit juice, while Kyung sipped on some coffee.
“I hope you raise your daughter well.”
“She’ll be just like me.”
She understood Yoongyo’s feelings now. She could feel Kyung’s annoyance.
After she returned home, she watched the happy children.
Her children proudly decorated the walls with their kindergarten projects. Each piece of art added a splash of color to the room, creating a joyful and vibrant atmosphere. The display served as a constant reminder of their growth and the boundless potential that lay ahead.
In the past his house was quite simple. It looked like no one lived there. Yoongyo did not like to have appliances that were not necessary.
She smiled because Yoongyo really loved his children.
Then Jiho approached her.
“What’s wrong?”
“When your dad gets home, make sure to show him the hippopotamus.”
Jumi pondered where Yoongyo might be, as he had not yet returned home.
She longed for the familiar comfort of his return.
