Weekly Chapter 4/4
“What are you guys doing here?”
Some people screamed as the cabinet fell. Park ran toward the commotion. He stopped the men who were acting inappropriately.
“Look! The priest has gone mad!”
Shouted the burly man.
“I feel like throttling these merchants!”
“I’ll personally ask for Jang’s consent. Please stop!”
“I don’t care. Move aside if you value your life!”
A thug hit Park with his big hand.
Now that he was on the floor, they began to beat him with clubs.
Jang had hired these thugs, who despised priests who had opened free clinics. Park knew that fact too, but it remained unspoken.
The priests would leave someday, Jang would be the only one who would stay. He regretted that innocent people would not be able to receive medical treatment.
At that moment, Eunha, who had arrived late at the clinic because the priest promised her some tea to help with her morning sickness, approached the open door. The thugs threw different furniture.
Eunha’s heart dropped when she saw how the thugs assaulted people.
The priests shouted at Eunha to run away. Eunha was standing at the entrance.
Why?
Why again?
Why did this seem familiar?
When she suddenly came to her senses, someone’s hand threw her to the floor.
The atmosphere became noisy. She couldn’t comprehend the yelling. How could they assault those who were committed to aiding others?
She stood up abruptly, as if under a spell, drew the gun from her arms, and aimed it skyward. The moment she pulled the trigger seemed too long to her.
BANG
The scent of gunpowder permeated the air.
There was an eerie silence, it seemed that time had stopped.
“This!”
A thug held out his hand with a pale face.
“You’re such a bitch!”
But Eunha was not intimidated.
“I hunted three tigers. They all died. I could break your head. You’ll never see your children again, because you’ll never be able to open your eyes. Stop.”
She moved her finger closer to the trigger. The thug frowned. It seemed the thugs had heard rumors about Eunha, because no one took action.
“Now get out. I won’t shoot.”
Then the thugs left.
Eunha, who had suppressed the fear inside her, did not relax her sharp eyes.
Once they departed the clinic, they warned that anyone who accepted another patient would be killed. Eunha then heard a sigh of relief from behind her.
She sat up because she had lost strength in her legs.
“Eunha! Are you all right?”
“Yes!”
“Why do you have a gun with you?”
She managed to stand up with the priest’s support.
“There are dangers in this town.”
She had to protect herself.
However, the scent of gunpowder made her feel nauseous. She covered her mouth due to nausea. Eunha dashed out of the clinic. Finally, she vomited.
She hadn’t eaten anything, so it wasn’t easy for her to vomit.
Hot tears flowed from her eyes. Her heart raced. She sensed the pressure ripping through her insides. It would be a relief if she could just throw it all up.
“Ah!”
As she rubbed her face, a hand touched her back. Priest Christopher? She shook her head as the hand stroked her back in comfort.
“I’m fine, priest.”
She, who lifted her upper body, turned around.
She froze.
Was it a dream?
Was it an illusion?
The man wearing a gat hat bowed his head. His eyes had an arrogant dignity. Then his coarse hand seized the back of her head.
“I found you.”
