Weekly Chapter 3/4
“I’m expecting a baby.”
His unfocused eyes trembled.
“You really are cruel.”
Gently stroking her cheek, his hand moved to the back of her head.
Eunha buried her face in his chest. She shed bitter tears.

Heein rode to Jihak’s house in a palanquin.
She had heard that the Great Prince’s warriors, who departed Harye 15 days earlier, had arrived in a town. Those who did not know the circumstances might believe that the Great Prince had made a long journey, but not Heein.
Her brother did not move without purpose. Even if she couldn’t grasp it, his actions held significance. Besides, Jihak had cut off Kim’s ear.
Whispers circulated that the Great Prince had committed dreadful acts in the town.
Upon hearing that Jihak had visited the King, Heein felt that something significant was about to happen. He really was going blind or he had chosen that woman.
Maybe it was both.
Heein planned to meet with Jihak, to find out what happened.
“Hurry up!”
“Yes.”
…
…
She arrived at Jihak’s house faster than usual.
As she exited the palanquin, a light rain began to fall on her head.
Soon the light rain would become heavier.
As Heein entered the gate, she felt the somber atmosphere of a house in mourning. Kim, who had lost his ears, appeared with a somber expression.
“Jagga.”
“You look sick. You should have been careful! You know the Great Prince’s personality.”
Heein, with her fists clenched, stepped under the eaves. She watched as the muddy water splashed onto the hem of her pretty skirt. Her fingernails left marks on her palms.
She felt anxious.
Heein was worried about Jihak’s safety. She had raised him as a mother, so she expected Jihak to overcome adversity safely.
It was impossible for him to live a normal life because he had inherited royal blood. She wanted him to cling to power. She believed that would be her brother’s happiness.
But now, she appeared to be mistaken.
The last time she spoke with him, Jihak mentioned that despite ascending the throne, a blind King could never comprehend the suffering of his people.
—You’re right. That woman is poison to me. She is a poison I chose with my own hands, a poison that will devour me. She is also my beautiful misfortune.
Jihak was sincere.
Heein closed her eyes tightly.
“The Great Prince has arrived!”
The attendants lined up at the gate despite the rain.
As the gate swung open, the warriors rode through.
Heein rejoiced when she saw Jihak, but froze when she saw the tatty palanquin.
The Grand Prince got off his horse.
“Don’t say a word.”
The rain that fell on his shoulders rose like a mist from the heat. After the bearers moved aside, he personally opened the palanquin door.
Heein identified the huddled woman. Ignoring the muddy water soaking his silken clothes, he knelt down and gently lifted the sleeping Eunha into his arms.
Jihak headed to his quarters.
Eunha startled when she awoke from the cold, but he held her tighter.
“Great Prince.”
He stopped his steps at Heein’s voice.
