Weekly Chapter 4/4
The people laughed loudly.
The five people gathered in the annex drank alcohol nervously as they watched the warriors lined up behind the Great Prince.
Each time they ingested alcohol, they felt more inebriated. Their minds were as confused as a ship caught in a storm.
They gained power because they managed an op!um field. There was no possibility that these people knew Jihak’s appearance. They believed that Jihak was a cruel person who had to be killed.
However, the Great Prince’s face was concealed, and Choi Youngheung, who was supposed to oversee the transaction, had yet to appear. That aggravated his anxiety.
“Jeong, I don’t see Choi. When will he appear?”
Jeong, keeping his gaze on the Great Prince’s hand, said,
“Just wait. He’ll likely earn a significant amount since he was part of the negotiation, so I doubt he’ll miss an opportunity like this.”
“But something seems strange to me.”
Jeong Hyunsu agreed with those words. He also did not show his uneasiness. The Great Prince hadn’t said a word so far.
“Dismiss the courtesans,”
Jeong Hyunsu declared loudly. Every eye turned his way, and the courtesans’ joyful expressions became tense.
It was at that moment that the Great Prince, smoking a blend of tobacco and op!um, directed his gaze towards them. His hands, with black fingers, trembled. Jeong Hyunsu spoke again to the courtesans who only looked at each other,
“This is an important business. It seems that the Great Prince is not interested in women, so you may leave now.”
The courtesans hesitated, but soon stood up. The men who were delighted with the courtesans, sighed with regret.
The courtesans leave the annex. Only after they all disappeared did Jeong Hyunsu take out the op!um he had brought.
“Now we can talk quietly.”
A smile appeared on his face.
“This is the op!um you wanted. We brought the best we grew.”
The Prince, holding his pipe, shifted his gaze to the op!um Jeong Hyunsu produced.
“You can smoke this free of charge. It’s just for you to assess the quality. As a merchant, I’m keen on securing a good price.”
But the Great Prince still did not respond. Not only Jeong Hyunsu, but also those who were moderately drunk began to feel uncomfortable.
He didn’t expect hospitality, but he didn’t expect such a brazen attitude either. He wanted to give op!um mixed with oleander to Jihak. But he seemed to evaluate all his actions.
Nor could he look at his hidden expression. Jeong Hyunsu’s patient was finished.
“The courtesans have already left, and it’s just us now. Wouldn’t it be fair for you to reveal your face? How can we do business with someone we don’t even know?”
It was a bold comment to change the situation, but the silence became even heavier. Jeong Hyunsu slowly clenched his fists as he looked around.
Strange.
The annex was devoid of any trace of the attendants. They were supposed to be present throughout the banquet to attend them.
The wind blew through the damp branches. The sweet scent seemed fake. Jeong Hyunsu read the signs around him to find out the reason for his anxiety.
“Look at the Great Prince’s hand.”
The Great Prince’s fingers trembled at those words.
Jeong Hyunsu remembered Choi Youngheung, who came to visit them. Choi Youngheung gave him money as a down payment. His fingernails were black.
His face turned pale.
Could this be a trap?
At that moment, the pungent scent of oil filled the air. Then, the dark night sky became as bright as noon.
“Fire!”
“Ugh!”
A fiery arrow struck the first person to stand. The screams of a man engulfed in flames echoed through the annex, throwing the place into chaos.
Flames quickly engulfed the annex, setting the roof ablaze.
Panic ensued as everyone tried to escape. Jeong Hyunsu sprinted towards the Great Prince, who turned around, and finally seized him by the neck.
