Weekly Chapter 1/4
Jihak asked her not to move.
The moment she nodded, Jihak disappeared into the flames. Eunha strengthened her legs so that they would not falter. She felt helpless because she wanted to help.
“Move aside!”
Harye’s people swarmed like bees, carrying jars containing water. Even the faces she had seen on the mountain were among the crowd.
They began to fill bowls with water to pour water on the fire. Eunha and Heein, who rolled up their sleeves, also did the same.
They had to act because no miracle would happen.
She didn’t want to lose anyone.

The flames towered above the Shadows, who drenched themselves with water. Jihak, who stepped into the smoke, looked around.
A blood trail marked the floor. It also looked as if someone had dragged the tip of his sword across it. And there were signs indicating that the fire was an act of arson.
Jihak had leaked information about the opium trade. He exercised caution, knowing the plan would vary based on whether they were foes or allies.
Choi Youngheung impersonated Jihak while leading the Shadows in his search for evidence. The majority of the proceeds were funneled to Wongun’s army, with the remainder going to the Defense Minister. They fabricated a false ledger.
However, someone unexpectedly started a fire. Though he was unsure of their objective, it seemed their plan had likely failed.
A smile appeared on Jihak’s face.
“Save everyone!”
Then the Shadows smashed through the doors, with Jihak joining in to help rescue the attendants. The red-hot iron caused them wounds, but they did not even feel pain.
Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the warriors’ bodies because there were people who continuously poured water into the fire from beyond the wall.
“My Lord!”
Jihak, who opened the door to the last room, heard Yuljae’s voice.
Yuljae helped someone stand up. It was Kim, with half of his body severely burned. Jihak approached Kim, whose life depended on him. Yuljae was exhausted.
“What happened?”
Kim’s eyelids trembled when he recognized Jihak’s voice. Kim, who raised his head with difficulty, shed tears as he looked at Jihak.
“It was Wongun…”
His voice was gritty and coarse.
“I couldn’t catch him. I couldn’t help you…”
Jihak wanted to hold him, but Kim finally collapsed to the floor. The blood flowing from Kim’s body drew a line. Kim muttered,
“Go away. I don’t want to be a burden anymore.”
He was glad that the Crown Prince was safe.
Kim had decided to live his life as the Crown Prince’s attendant.
He smiled when he tasted the honey contained in the red flower he picked. Even though the Queen Mother whipped him on the calf, he found it so adorable that he smiled.
Jihak helped Kim to his feet. Then he stopped at the door. Soon it would collapse from the flames. But Jihak didn’t move.
Was his vision blurred because he was angry? Or had he gone blind?
Kim’s body lost its strength. Jihak strode through the door with long steps, a charred pillar collapsing behind him.
His body faltered.
“Jihak…”
His dark vision cleared. He saw Eunha running towards him.
