Weekly Chapter 3/6
She stayed up all night watching him sleep. The nobles who had visited him returned home after a wild night in the pavilion.
They wanted to deepen their relations with Jihak, because in case he ascended to the throne, they could have political influence. The curious young men could not understand why he had resigned as Crown Prince.
But the birthday boy did not appear at the banquet. Gari, who said she would accompany the visitors, clicked her tongue. It was a little rule she learned. Then she left the room.
Eunha stared at Jihak’s face.
There was no way to prove that her father had not committed high treason now that he was dead. Her father was a pure man who could not refuse requests.
His beautiful face suffered a wound at an early age. He was also a man who could not rebel because he had no greed.
How could she believe that her father’s tongue almost caused Jihak’s death? How could her father easily accept a sin he had not committed?
“When you know what I hid, you’ll want me to stay away.”
Eunha gently placed her hand on his face. She slid her hand from his sharp nose to his lips that exhaled at a steady rhythm.
“When I see Jihak, my heart beats like this. I don’t know if I’m afraid. But when my heart beats like this, I want Jihak to hold me. I want him to kiss me. Should I call this feeling love?”
But she felt afraid that her heart would hurt someone. Her actions involving Jihak might put her sister at risk, or conversely, her sister’s situation could pose a threat to Jihak.
She withdrew her hand when she heard someone enter. Kim, who was behind the doctor, looked at her cautiously. Eunha nodded.
“Hey.”
Kim reached into Jihak’s pocket who was lying down. He handed the jade ring to Eunha. She asked with a puzzled expression,
“For what reason do you give me this ring?”
“I want you to run an errand for me.”
“I’m not an errand girl. Nor can I go out without orders from Jihak.”
“I will allow it. I will also provide you with an escort…”
Eunha, who sensed fear, handed the ring back to Kim.
“I must prepare to read a book today. Sorry.”
Then she ran to her room without looking back.
Her pulse raced. It seemed as though Kim was attempting to betray her.
Eunha’s fear of the house started to intensify further. There were looks that looked down on her. Even the air in the room felt heavy to her as she crouched in the small room she had been assigned.
I even became tiger bait.
Probably, she acted like a man to hide her weak nature.
Eunha raised her head. Then she looked at the neatly folded silk clothes.
She could not remain helpless in a tiger’s den.
She took out a sheet of paper. She first drank some water to calm her mind, then carefully began to write.
—I am neither a reader, nor a courtesan, nor my father’s daughter, nor Yongi’s sister. I am just an ordinary person. And I don’t want the same thing to happen to me.
She tried to contain her emotions as she wrote the letter to an unknown recipient.
