Weekly Chapter 2/3
Yongi didn’t doubt what she witnessed. It was said that after three years of practice, even a dog could recite poetry. So, she understood that an ordinary person couldn’t wear a jade crown with a dragon on it.
Before sunset, Yongi contacted Choi.
A crowd was moving toward the patient.
“Sir Choi, I need a favor.”
“What can I do for you?”
“Please be discreet when you see the patient. He appears to be a high-ranking individual.”
“A high-ranking individual? Was he bitten by a snake?”
“I’m not sure. But I know where he is.”
Yongi clutched the ring around her neck. Her heart calmed. She had left everything behind in Airi town, but she couldn’t part with this ring.
“I found him while gathering acorns. I marked the spot with a ribbon.”
With determination, Yongi began to walk, followed by a perspiring Robin.
Men acquainted with the terrain waved branches to scare away the snakes.
Yongi searched for a large rock.
“There’s a red ribbon hanging there!”
A man pointed to a distant tree.
Yongi hadn’t seen it due to the obstacles.
“You’re right.”
She felt relieved as the man looked proud.
“Hurry! The patient might die.”
Yongi was the first to reach the rocks. The man was still breathing. Before descending the mountain, she had tied his leg to stop the poison from spreading.
The man opened his eyes.
“You…”
“Don’t speak. I brought a doctor. We’ll get you to town. Just hang in there a bit longer.”
“Water…”
“You’ll be able to eat all you want soon.”
Robin opened his medical bag, filled with peculiar items.
“What are you doing! You scoundrel…!”
“I’m a doctor. You’re in Harye. Stay calm.”
“Harye?”
The man, biting his lips hard, buried his face in Yongi’s lap.
Yongi held the man’s hand tightly. When Robin removed the man’s silk footwear, he found two fang marks on his ankles. His legs had turned blue, looking lifeless due to the poison spread.
He might have to live as a cripple. But he too could die if the poison spreads.
“I need to drain the blood.”
Robin signaled to Choi. Some people held the man. Then he made an incision with a sterilized knife. The man screamed but couldn’t overpower those holding him.
Crimson blood stained the fallen leaves.
The man’s screams grew louder as antiseptic was poured.
“He has received initial treatment, but we need to move him urgently. He will have a fever. Let’s hope he can survive.”
Robin wiped the blood from his face with his sleeve. The men carried the unconscious aristocrat. One said to Yongi,
“Someone needs to care for the patient. Tonight will be critical…”
“I will.”
Yongi felt responsible because she found him.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course.”
“He doesn’t seem like an ordinary nobleman. Do you know who he is?”
“I don’t. Maybe my brother-in-law does.”
Back at the clinic, they put the man to bed in the room Eunha had prepared. Eunha, who had been waiting anxiously, covered her mouth in shock at the man’s clothing.
Yongi instinctively sensed the trouble this man would bring. Those she loved most would suffer the most from the impending storm.
