Weekly Chapter 3/3
“I’ve brought a few items.”
Gari, carrying a basin, noticed two pairs of silk shoes neatly placed on the stone floor. Soon, she heard noises coming from inside.
Jihak was the one who opened the door. He narrowed his eyes as he observed what Gari had brought.
“Don’t disturb my wife today.”
“Understood.”
Gari took a step back and bowed her head.
Jihak, after descending to the drawing room, headed toward the annex. There was no indication that anyone had entered overnight, meaning Yuljae had not returned.
Park approached Jihak and bowed respectfully.
“I’ll prepare breakfast for you.”
“After breakfast, I need to go to the clinic. Make the necessary arrangements.”
“Yes, sir.”
The clear sky signaled the arrival of autumn. A cool breeze swept through the yard, and the leafless trees appeared increasingly barren. The flowers had lost their vibrancy.
As Jihak entered the chambers, Park followed with the soban.
Jihak turned to the attendant and asked,
“Was it my sister who selected the midwife?”
“Yes. She’s said to be the most skilled midwife in Harye.”
“I have an uneasy feeling about this. The baby might arrive early, so ensure my wife is never left unattended.”
“Understood. I hope you enjoy the meal. We received a generous catch of fish from Airi today. They say the fish is highly nutritious.”
The house was filled with the savory aroma of fish.
Jihak picked up a piece of dried haddock with his chopsticks.
“Send half of the shipment from Airi to the clinic. You can divide the remaining half among yourselves.”
“Really?”
“We’re not in a palace. It’s only fair to share.”
“Thank you. I’ll inform everyone right away.”
The attendant left with an excited expression.
It seemed the baby would finally be born here.
Jihak had never planned to have children or marry. Before meeting Eunha, he had lived with death as his constant companion, ready to sever any ties without hesitation.
How ironic.
The thought of holding a child who might resemble him sent a shiver down his spine. He regretted creating enemies who could one day threaten his son.

As Jihak entered the clinic, interpreter Choi approached him.
Choi glanced around, searching for Eunha, but she was nowhere to be seen.
“My wife won’t be working today. She’s unwell, so don’t look for her.”
Choi’s face paled at the news of Eunha’s illness. Nodding silently, he guided Jihak inside.
After passing through two doors, they arrived at a secluded area.
“The esteemed patient is inside.”
“I’ll attend to him personally.”
“Doctor Robin will be here shortly.”
After bidding farewell to Choi, Jihak walked slowly toward the door. Three pairs of shoes were lined up outside.
As he looked up, Yuljae opened the door.
Yuljae, who hadn’t slept all night, greeted Jihak with a weary expression.
“I heard you were with Yongi.”
“She just fell asleep for a while.”
“I suppose I’ll have to slip in quietly.”
When Jihak entered the room, he was taken aback by the sight of the person lying there.
