Chapter 131. Ready To Be Parents (3)

Weekly Chapter 5/6
“…”
As memories from long ago came flooding back, Taesun’s gaze once again rested on Seo Gyuha.
Objectively speaking, there were certainly aspects where Gyuha seemed lacking as a match for her son. Her husband had reluctantly approved their marriage upon learning of the pregnancy, though his occasional sighs betrayed his lingering disappointment.
But for Taesun, the match felt like a blessing in disguise. Sure, she had been shocked—first by the revelation that Gyuha was an omega and then by the nature of their relationship. Yet she had always adored him, and their decision to build a life together seemed reason enough not to oppose the union.
A partner with more comparable credentials might have been a better match socially, but such a union wouldn’t necessarily bring the stability or satisfaction that came from genuine affection. Perhaps it was because she, too, had married someone from a different background. Whatever the reason, Taesun believed a passionate, dynamic life—full of love, arguments, and growth—was far better than a dull, conventional existence.
“Your meal is ready.”
As the dishes were served one by one, Taesun couldn’t suppress her smile. Despite the formal setting, Chayoung casually placed a portion of his appetizer onto his partner’s plate. Watching this gesture reminded Taesun of how her husband had done the same for her in their courting days, often earning her light scolding for his trouble.
“Eat slowly and enjoy, Gyuha.”
“Yes. …You too, Mother.”
Avoiding the knowing smiles of the elders, Gyuha quickly busied himself with his chopsticks.
One day, during the preparations for the wedding, the topic of how to address each other’s parents had come up. After lengthy discussions, they had agreed to use ‘Mother’ and ‘Father’ for each other’s parents, but it still felt awkward and unfamiliar.
Breaking his silence, Taesun’s husband, Lee Taehan, finally spoke.
“Are the preparations coming along well?”
Chayoung responded immediately, having anticipated the question,
“Yes. We even went to the hospital together today. I’ll send you the photos later.”
Caught off guard, Gyuha turned to glare at his partner. He opened his mouth to protest but quickly remembered the elders seated across from him. Restraining his volume, he growled quietly.
“Why would you send that?”
“I told you before. Mom was curious about how the baby’s doing. Since I was already sending her photos, I thought I’d send these to my mom too.”
“I don’t remember that.”
“We should install CCTV at home.”
“Are you crazy? What nonsense…”
Suppressing a chuckle, Taesun continued eating. Her hunch had been correct. Watching the two bicker like children was endlessly entertaining.
After the meal, as they stepped outside the restaurant, Taesun spoke warmly,
“Next time, come to the house. I’ll cook something delicious for you.”
She then addressed Gyuha with equal affection,
“If you want something, just make Chayoung get it for you. And if he ever upsets you, call me right away, okay?”
“Yes. Please take care on your way home.”
After saying goodbye to his parents in the parking lot, the couple got back into their car. Their next stop was the department store. On hospital days, they often spent the afternoon browsing and picking up baby items as a way to stretch their legs and unwind.
Upon reaching the third floor, they were greeted by a sprawling display of goods. They began leisurely perusing the stores near the entrance. Unlike his initial visits, where tiny onesies and shoes no bigger than his fist had elicited incredulous laughter, Gyuha now approached the task with surprising seriousness.
Meanwhile, Chayoung had opened his phone’s memo app. Ever meticulous, he referred to a list, updated the previous Saturday, detailing what to buy each week. Today’s task was picking out toys for the baby.
