Chapter 131. Long Time (5)
Allen had not yet spoken properly with his family, Raychell and Veronica, who were still waiting for permission to enter the palace. They had to go directly to Allen’s residence after they arrived.
“I suppose you have been too busy to ask for an audience with the King. I’m sorry for that.”
“It’s fine. We can visit Chermil anytime from tomorrow.”
Allen said this as he cut a juicy steak with ease.
The reason why Allen needed an audience for his family to access the royal palace was the teleportation magic circle. Callian and Arsene were both mages, so they agreed to work together on how to make a ‘teleportation magic circle that only certain people could use’. Since Callian had difficulty moving around, he had to bring the researchers to his room.
Allen, who had Raychell and Veronica on his mind, turned to Callian and asked.
“Have you spoken to my family?”
Callian remembered Veronica, who had the same hair color as Allen. He only knew that she was a year younger than him and a novice mage who had just completed her second circle.
“I had a little chat with Raychell, but I only said hello to Veronica.”
“You’ll have more time to talk later.”
“Yes, there’s no hurry.”
Callian nodded, savoring the hazelnuts, which were common in Kairis but new to him.
After finishing their dinner by exchanging some casual stories and experiences, the two took a long walk. When they arrived at the rose garden, Allen spoke first.
“Let me see it.”
He didn’t need to explain what he meant. Allen must have been eager to see it as soon as he met Callian. Callian stretched out his hand and focused his magic. A sharp and intense magical aura, as if it could slice anything, shaped into a round sphere.
Allen was amazed by the sight. It was no wonder, since even the great Sispanian was impressed by it. How could Allen feel any different?
“Can you add elemental power to this magic?”
Callian nodded briefly and then hid his magic again.
“I can, but it’s not stable enough to use it at will yet.”
“So, you’ve wielded it as a sword and a club?”
Yes, it was a splendid club.
Callian smiled as he remembered the events of the previous day. He had no idea how long it had been since he let his anger get the best of him and showed it.
“It’s a rare power, so I’m concerned that Margrave Brissen might blab about it.”
At that, Callian shook his head to reassure him.
“He might not have feared being sliced by a sword, but he would never have expected to be bludgeoned to death. So he must be terrified by the fact that there is someone who will bash him like that. Even if he is fortunate enough to walk again and wield a sword, he will never want to cross paths with me again.”
“How many times did you hit him to make the former swordmaster fear you that much?”
Allen shook his head.
“Your Highness, in Kairis, we should avoid such incidents.”
“I’m aware that my actions were harsh. It was a bold move to prevent Gray from ever sneaking into the capital to endanger His Highness’s life, so there won’t be any chance for such actions in the capital.”
Hearing this, Allen spoke again.
“Fine. Anyway, now the Marquis will be haunted by bad rumors.”
“Yes. He was very cruel to his son, so there will be consequences. So, why don’t we wait until those rumors have spread to announce the creation of Valkan?”
According to what Gray’s butler said, Gray would be ambushed by men sent by the Marquis two days later, severely hurt his back, and return to Brissen territory. He also had plans to spread the news of the Marquis’ scandalous actions. Evan Brissen would be troubled by rumors for a while.
“Right now, it’ll be hard to concentrate on handling the rumors because of the impending arrival of Valkan’s mages at His Majesty’s door. So, how about we postpone the announcement of the Valkan Foundation and the change of the Pavel Knights’ territory into Valkan’s domain until after that?”
Allen and Romain had the same idea.
“That sounds reasonable,” Romain said. “We were going to announce it today or tomorrow, but let’s delay it by a week or so. By the way, I heard some disturbing rumors about Lord Polune’s role in Lennon’s death, but they should die down.”
This was something that Callian had found out after coming to this place – that Lennon’s vanishing had happened at the same time as Melfir’s rise. Many people thought there was a link between the two events, so Melfir might have faced some difficulties of his own.
