Chapter 140. One Question (2)
Rumian’s words during the dinner were not just idle talk. So, when Callian told him his story, Rumian quickly understood what he meant.
“Are you referring to the hunting trip?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Callian continued to explain more.
“It was a topic that came up naturally during the meal, and it was something you proposed to Planche, not me. So, even if it is advanced suddenly, there won’t be many who are doubtful.”
Rumian nodded, listening closely to Callian’s words.
“Also, since it’s a hunting contest, it wouldn’t be odd for all the nobles of the Knightly House to join. The queen won’t skip it, and soon gossip about Gray Brisen will spread, making the Brisen heir unable to escape the event.”
Rumian’s face became slightly gloomy at these words. It wasn’t because setting up a hunting contest was hard. Rumian, noticing something from Callian’s words, asked softly.
“You say we have to avoid Brisen’s attention, but you want me to organize an event where Planche has to come. Did Planche and the queen fall out by any chance?”
“Yes. At least Planche seems to have distanced himself in some way.”
Rumian had a somewhat uncomfortable expression.
Soon, Rumian nodded and said, “It’s not a hard task. Get ready…”
Callian thanked him again for the easy approval. Then, in a more careful tone than before, he said.
“And there is one more thing I want to ask.”
Callian’s next words were something Rumian had not anticipated at all.
“I want to make a large-scale teleportation array between Kairis and the land of Duke Siegfried. I also intend to link it to other areas in the future.”
The territory of the elephants. A teleportation array connecting that place and Kairis.
“If Duke Siegfried’s knights attacked, Kairis would fall in just three days.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“I learned from Manasil that your servant is Siegfried’s oldest son. I know Duke Siegfried’s personality well. But the matter you mentioned now doesn’t look like something that can be easily settled based only on trust in them.”
Rumian kept thinking for a while.
But it wasn’t something he could make a decision easily.
“I will tell you my answer later. Please be patient for a while.”
Finally, Rumian said that he needed more time to think.
People’s tastes naturally change at any time, like the turn of the hand.
The fact that Callian did not really like the coffee that Bern liked was proof of such a change.
On the day when Callian removed the poison from his body in front of Silica and drank something, it was coffee. So, Callian was not clearly rejecting it if someone offered it, but he did not look for coffee to drink first. There was a slight feeling of dislike.
After finding out this fact, Yan had never offered coffee to Callian.
Even though Allen always had coffee with him, he also knew Callian’s feelings and avoided drinking coffee in Chermil Palace.
So, after finishing the talk with Rumian and coming back to Chermil Palace with Callian, when Yan asked what they wanted to drink, Allen answered him.
“Anything is fine.”
And Arsene, who was sitting opposite Allen, replied politely to Yan’s same question.
“Could I have a cup of strong coffee?”
Yan, who agreed easily, put a very concentrated coffee in front of the magician with dark circles that looked like the abyss under his eyes.
After drinking some mint tea and looking at the coffee, Allen said softly to Arsene.
“My friend, you might die if you drink all of that.”
“I don’t think it would make much difference.”
Whether it was dying from tiredness or drinking coffee that had a color like a subspace.
Arsene drank the coffee without any doubt.
Callian was amazed and shook his head.
“Is it because you can’t make teleportation arrays?”
Callian, who had never pressured Arsene before, spoke up. Since Rumian couldn’t answer right away anyway, and thinking that Arsene might die before becoming the leader of the Valkan Legion at this rate, there was no hurry.
“For now, it’s better to rest today. And just make a normal teleportation array. Strengthen the security if needed.”
Callian didn’t want to push Arsene to the edge, so he asked what he had ordered.
“No, Your Highness.”
To his surprise, Arsene shook his head and said, “I have a solution, Your Highness. I changed the way the oath mark works. It allows for a usage agreement between multiple people and magic arrays.”
Arsene smiled and finished, “Your Highness can have the teleportation array for yourself.”
It was a very satisfying statement.
Callian smiled and trusted Arsene.
Arsene, who had been drinking Yan’s coffee to avoid sleeping before hearing Callian’s words, fell on Callian’s sofa as if he had passed out. And he slept deeply for the first time in a while.
Seeing this, Allen asked Callian, “Does he have anything else to do?”
“No. I intend to send mages from the Mage Society to continue with the magic array.”
“Then he can be a relaxed mage again.”
Callian knew why he was asking and couldn’t answer. Allen laughed happily when Callian didn’t say anything.
The work of the Mage Guild was stacking up at the Arpia Palace.
How can someone who will be the future Legion Commander have spare time?
