Chapter 141. One Question (3)
A few more days went by.
The greenhouse where Silica used to grow the Lurnieri plant with its green leaves was now totally barren. She had smashed all the plants in the greenhouse in a rage when she met Callian to swear oaths.
She had stayed in her room ever since, until a few days ago. That’s why the greenhouse was tidied up but still empty and vacant for several months.
Silica was walking slowly in the reception room that was in the middle of the greenhouse. A coldness seemed to spread with every step she took, making the maids too scared to come near her.
She was opening and closing the fan in her hand as she roamed around the greenhouse, when she suddenly halted, biting her lips hard.
Gray Brissen was not coming.
He had definitely come close to the capital. But then the news stopped all of a sudden.
Lennon’s disappearance had no clear explanation, but Silica did not question the plausibility of it. He was a commoner, so kidnapping or killing him was not unthinkable.
But Gray was different.
Silica was not worried because she thought something bad had happened to Gray. She was wondering if Gray had gone missing on purpose.
As Silica was thinking about this, the head maid came quickly and told her something.
“Count Gray Brissen was assaulted by men who were sent by Marquis Evan Brissen when he came near the capitol. As a consequence, the news that he was badly wounded and went back to the Brissen house is widely known.”
Listening to this, Silica wrinkled her brow and asked.
“He… He got a warning from Evan Brissen not to come back to Kairis, knowing that he wanted to take the Marquis title. The nobles are making a lot of fuss about it.”
The nobles were very quick to gossip.
The news that Evan had attacked Gray, who had come to the capital to get treated, spread like a storm in no time.
It was not surprising. After all, Gray was a Swordmaster.
What could be more intriguing than such a person getting hurt badly by his father?
She opened and closed the fan in her hand a few more times, and then muttered.
“No, I told them to get rid of him beforehand, thinking that he might go for the Marquis title. At this time.”
Then, as if something was odd, Silica asked the head maid again.
“My father didn’t go himself, so who could hurt Gray?”
“Gray Brissen was already wounded and on his way to the capital. That’s why they were not able to fight back well, I heard.”
When she heard the answer, Silica’s eyes gleamed.
Silica, with keen eyes, turned to the head maid again and asked.
“Send healing potions to Count Brissen. Check if he is really wounded and coming back, and find out who exactly attacked him. Go and see for yourself as fast as you can.”
The head maid nodded, showing that she would do so.
“And find Lord Teyle and bring him here right away.”
Teyle was the deputy leader of the Pabel knight order, who left the royal palace because of Callian. He had also used his sword for Silica several times. Since he would do anything for money, there was no one better than him to fill in for Gray in a crisis.
After the head maid left quickly, Silica wandered around the greenhouse again.
Silica was trying to verify all three guesses she had made. The first and second would be checked by the maids who would meet Gray. The third would be verified through Teyle.
She thought of someone hidden.
“Why does he keep popping up in my mind?”
“…Why do you keep haunting my thoughts?”
Trying to get rid of the uneasy feeling, Silica went back to her room.
That afternoon, there was a big announcement from Romain.
The arrangements for creating a magic group called Valkan were done, and the opening ceremony would happen a week later, followed by immediate start of activities.
The interim leader of Valkan was Callian Manasil, and the deputy leader was Arsene Hertz.
On the morning when Silica had scowled at the news about Gray, she again furrowed her brows at this announcement.
“To use Pabel’s building and training grounds… His Majesty has totally ignored the past.”
Seeing Silica unhappy again, the head maid wondered how to reply. From Silica’s mouth, there was a harsh and grating sound.
“Just because Pabel’s building vanished doesn’t mean I’ve lost my influence. Who thinks they can use that place for the mages…”
Silica stopped in her words for a moment.
She held back from asking about it at this time.
There were rumors going around that Marquis Brissen had disabled his son. If Silica challenged Romain in such a situation, people’s attention would turn to her.
“Did you say they collected about thirty mages?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
Silica nodded with a smirk.
“Well, with that, you can’t do anything. If His Highness wants to have fun with the army, I guess I’ll give you a tour first. I get it now.”
After saying that, Silica looked away. Then, the head maid carefully spoke to her again.
“I brought the person you said.”
