Weekly Chapter 1/3
It could be said that it was madness from the moment she presented the plan that day in Songbaekjae, after Tae Lee-Seob made the decision. Minkyung had never in her life been worried or troubled by a roll of the dice. While others pinned their hopes on the chance of the dice, she focused her efforts on finding the most appropriate strategy and solution for each situation, no matter how unfavorable the outlook was.
For the past month or so, Minkyung had rushed forward like a runaway train. At no time did she stop to look back or to the sides. It was only now, with the results in hand, that she allowed herself to reflect on the plan.
‘What led me to propose such a risky plan? Was it my personal ambition for professional success, as Director Tae Joon-Seob suspected? Or was it Lee-Seob himself?’
As she pondered with her eyes closed, a wrinkle formed on her forehead.
The door to the director’s office opened and closed quietly. Careful steps headed towards the half-open break room. Minkyung’s eyes snapped open as she felt a hand on her forehead. A man’s face with a seductive smile appeared right in front of her.
“I didn’t know our Senior Manager Kang could sleep standing up.”
Minkyung straightened up and lowered her head.
“Director, when did you arrive? I didn’t hear you.”
“I came in quietly. I wanted to surprise you.”
At the unexpected response, Minkyung let out a weak laugh.
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to drink some tea.”
“That?”
Lee-Seob pointed with his chin at the dry tea bag in the mug. She realized that she hadn’t even poured the water from the electric kettle, lost in her thoughts.
“Let’s go.”
Lee-Seob grabbed her hand and led her out of the break room. Minkyung couldn’t hide her confusion.
“Director, where are we going…?”
“I’ll buy you some good tea.”
“No. This is enough for me.”
Lee-Seob ignored her words, took her handbag from her desk, and said,
“The work day ended a while ago. It’s time to go home.”
Before she realized it, they were already outside the fashion department. He was still holding her hand, so she quickly pulled herself free. However, he was holding her bag in his other hand. With her gaze lowered, she awkwardly extended her hands,
“Please give me my handbag, Director.”
“Give it to you?”
“Yes.”
“What will you give me in return?”
“Nothing. It’s mine.”
“Wrong. It’s mine now.”
Lee-Seob stopped and nodded politely to an employee passing by. He showed a friendly smile, but maintained the air of a boss.
He then turned his attention back to Minkyung and raised an eyebrow. As he held her handbag, he gestured for her to walk beside him. Among all her bags, this particular one was a gift from her mother. Plus, its bright orange color made it hard to miss.
Embarrassed, Minkyung stared at the bag until he finally handed it over with a false magnanimous attitude.
“Thank…”
She instinctively began to thank him, but quickly clamped her mouth shut.
‘Why should I be grateful?’
When another person passed by, Lee-Seob greeted him with his usual dignity.
‘Those who don’t know him well would never imagine that Tae Lee-Seob has a childish side.’
The moment she let out a sigh, he reached over and took off her glasses. He put them in his pocket and started walking.
“Director…”
She was about to call out to him, but decided it was better to walk naturally, as if nothing was wrong, rather than draw attention.
