Chapter 145. What Did We Just See? (3)
Weekly Chapter 1/3
— Your brothers not only look cool in photos, but they also have a comedic side.
“You’ve seen their faces?”
— In photos. Also in videos.
“Because of the sponsorship?”
— TK Electronics is the one who sponsors them.
He paused.
— When I heard about the sponsorship, I immediately looked them up. I was curious to know who your brothers were.
“Hmm…”
This time, Minkyung replied with a ‘hmm’.
— We’ll meet them in person soon, I suppose.
She didn’t respond to that.
“Did you call for a specific reason? Any instructions?”
— Yes, I almost forgot. I had something to say.
She instinctively tensed at his serious voice. In her mind, she quickly reviewed the next day’s schedule. She also went over important issues and figures.
Just days before the new issue of W Fashion Magazine was released, TK Electronics spoke to the media for the first time about the collaboration to highlight the smartwatch. Durell Homme’s sales had increased significantly in China, TK’s fashion mall was in full expansion and the Spring Breeze brand was in the final stages of acquisition. The stream of figures in her mind was abruptly interrupted by his voice.
— I miss you. What about you?
Thump! Thump!
Her heart pounded.
‘Ah…’
Minkyung replied, dazed,
“I… saw you at the office today.”
Of course, Ta Lee-Seob had seen her too. She then thought it was a joke, but her heart beat so hard that her face flushed. That fact hurt her pride a little. After a brief silence, he sighed deeply,
— Ha, you’re right. We saw each other today. But can you still see me? Do you have superpowers?
Minkyung looked out the window at the apartment building across the street and the dark sky. His face was everywhere. When she closed her eyes his face became even clearer.
“I…”
— Say it.
“Would you like to make a video call?”
She thought she heard him chuckle, and then his face appeared on her phone screen. He was leaning against the headboard of his bed in a round-necked shirt.
— Can you see me?
“Yes.”
— Where are you?
“On the balcony.”
— I’m in my bedroom.
“Ah.”
— Do you want me to show it to you?
“Your bedroom?”
— Uh-huh.
He turned his phone around and slowly showed her the bedroom.
— It’s a bedroom I’ve used since I was very young. Compared to the master bedroom in the apartment, it’s small. Still, it’s my favorite room.
He got up and took a few steps. Opening the glass door of a display case in one corner of the room, he asked,
“Can you see?”
“Not very well…”
He slowly moved his phone a few times to try to get the camera to focus properly. Minkyung examined the screen closely. A row of small items stood neatly aligned.
“Figurines.”
— They’re my treasures.
Some of the figurines looked intricately detailed, while others were colorful and somewhat sloppy.
— You don’t know much about figurines, do you?
“No, I don’t recognize many characters.”
— I’ll show them to you in person next time.
“Okay.”
— Up close they’re really impressive.
A smile appeared on Minkyung’s lips.
“Okay.”
Due to Minkyung’s subdued reaction, he remarked,
“Your responses are getting shorter. You’re sleepy already, aren’t you?”
Even though he was just talking, she imagined him smiling. Listening with that bias, his voice sounded even more affectionate.
“Don’t stay on the balcony. Go to your room and sleep.”
“Yes.”
She closed the balcony window, then the door leading to the living room. The apartment was not very clean, so she walked through it while she tried not to let the mess inside be caught on camera. Once she turned off the living room lights, the apartment was plunged into darkness. She navigated to her room by the light from her phone screen.
Standing in front of her room door, she gave a small bow to Lee-Seob on screen. Although it wasn’t that messy, she was embarrassed to show her plain room.
“I’m already in my room.”
“Good night.”
He ended the call with a brief farewell.
“Good night.”
The screen went dark. Minkyung stood there for a moment longer. Every day he left new marks on the walls of her heart. She had to replaster her heart daily. His handprints and footprints appeared easily on the roughly plastered walls. Before him, her heart was like wet cement, easily marked.
