Chapter 163. I Want To End This Relationship (12)
“I’m not that naive. You disliked me, and so did I. You were aroused by the sight of me drunk and disheveled at the hotel that night. After that, our intimacy confused your feelings.”
“Why do you define me?”
“I’ll rephrase. It confused my feelings.”
His face twisted in pain. He asked simply, like a child,
“So, do you hate me now?”
Minkyung remained silent, her gaze averted. Despite all her rehearsals, she heard a chain in her heart snap, releasing a flood of sadness. She looked at him with dry eyes.
Red eyes, trembling red lips.
‘Don’t cry, Tae Lee-Seob. Please don’t.’
“I mistakenly thought I liked you.”
“That’s a lie.”
“My desire to impress TK’s heir Tae Lee-Seob, a habit of mine, confused you. I’m sorry.”
He lifted his head, then covered his eyes with his hand, unable to hold back his tears. In the alley behind the apartment, he cried like a child. Minkyung rubbed her chest with her fist.
After a moment, he asked, staring into the void.
“Do you understand what you’re saying?”
“Yes.”
“You’re saying you deceived me.”
“Yes, essentially.”
He dropped his head, shaking it fiercely without looking at her.
“I… Minkyung.”
“Director, people are watching. Let’s talk tomorrow at lunch in a quiet place.”
Minkyung turned and walked away, mustering all her strength to avoid staggering. Lee-Seob quickly caught up to her, forcefully turning her around, his face a mess of tears.
“It’s all my fault.”
“No.”
“I treated you badly, hated you, and tormented you. I was childish.”
“No. It didn’t bother me.”
“Then stop lying. Don’t say you deceived me to hurt me.”
Minkyung stood there, watching him with a dry expression. She felt like she was sinking endlessly. Her vision blurred like flickering candlelight.
“Think whatever you want. I don’t know anymore.”
He shook his head in despair.
“Did you really date me just to manipulate me for work, make me take photos, get Chairman’s approval?”
“It was good for everyone. Even for TK Group.”
“Shut up.”
Lee-Seob interrupted her, gripping her shoulders tightly.
“Say it isn’t true. Tell me it’s all in my head!”
He shook her. She felt like her soul was being shaken loose.
“Minkyung, how could you do this to me? Make me act like a fool.”
“Please don’t. Stop it.”
Minkyung raised her voice.
‘Don’t fall apart over this, Tae Lee-Seob.’
“The initial excitement of a relationship or sex is just a myth. The trap of thinking you can’t be with anyone else because of the first. Try it again. Kang Minkyung is nothing. You’ll thank me for this later.”
It felt like cutting her own skin with a knife. She didn’t want to be pushed away and forgotten. He would never forget her.
Tears filled his eyes, and he lost focus. A new pain etched into his face. She gathered her shattered emotions.
Lee-Seob let go of her, wiping his wet cheeks and mouth roughly with his hands.
“Fine, I’ll date and sleep with other women. Is that what you want?”
“Director.”
“Shut up. I’m not your director. I’m just a fool you played with.”
Lee-Seob gritted his teeth.
“I didn’t want to say this, but Hyunsung. He’s in charge of M&P in China, right? You were just with him, laughing. Did you date him or someone else?”
Minkyung didn’t deny it. It was better to make him give up quickly.
“Now I get it. After having sex with other men, you realized the first time with me was boring. Tae Lee-Seob is nothing.”
Minkyung closed her stinging eyes.
‘Do it right. If you’re going to break up, do it right.’
“You’ve been acting strange since I got back from that long business trip. Did you think I wouldn’t notice? Did you enjoy all that time?”
“Director Tae Lee-Seob.”
She called him coldly.
“I’ll request to exclude Attorney Lee Hyunsung from M&P. He’s not special to me. All men are the same to me. Too predictable.”
He twisted his head in self-deprecation.
“You’re so amazing, Kang Minkyung. I didn’t expect this.”
Tae Lee-Seob looked utterly exhausted and contemptuous.
“Get out of my sight. Don’t ever show your face again.”
“I’ll resign.”
“Shit.”
Lee-Seob ground his teeth.
“This is the Chairman’s decision. You can’t just leave. Stay at the TK China branch and don’t come back.”
“Understood.”
“Don’t come to work starting tomorrow. Take paid leave to prepare for the overseas assignment. Go or disappear.”
“Thank you.”
“Show results. Don’t disgrace yourself.”
“Yes, Director.”
Minkyung bowed. It might be the last time, and the thought overwhelmed her.
‘I’ll lift my head when he’s gone. Just a little longer.’
She bit her lip until it bled. Suddenly, he grabbed her wrist, pulling her close. His face was worse than hers. He trembled as he spoke, gritting his teeth to hold back tears.
“I’ll never see you again.”
“Yes.”
He touched her dry cheek with his hand, his fingers covering her eyes.
“No matter what nonsense you say.”
With her eyes covered, he wept.
“I was sincere. Don’t trample on that, Kang Minkyung.”
Tears finally came. She cried silently, wetting his hand.
